Eight Products the Facebook Generation Will Not Buy

Posted: 08/05/2012

http://247wallst.com/2012/04/19/eight-products-the-facebook-generation-will-not-buy/

This article didn't surprise me too much - in fact, a lot of the things they mention are pretty obvious, such as a landline and a desktop (people still use those?).

What did surprise me was the fact that cars were on this list.

More so, that driver's licenses were down among young adults.  I always imagined the driver's license as being a "right of passage," one of those badges that says you've hit a new milestone in your life (and the government has agreed that you are responsible enough to own the badge - suckers!).  It's different from the voting or drinking age - you don't actually have to do anything to earn those badges, just turn 18 or 21 (in the US).  For a driver's license, you need to pass two tests - they are not hard, of course, but you still have to pass them - take the dreaded picture where everyone comes out looking dazed and confused, and then show it off to all your friends, while borrowing the family car for a joyride to someplace "fun," like the mall. (Yes, I did all these things.)  I'm amazed that this ritual is becoming less and less important to young adults.  It's too bad, because I would do it again, just for the thrill of it.  Would you?
